Board of Directors Resignation Letter

Introduction

A resignation letter is typically written to announce the willful termination of an employee from their current position at an organization. However a resignation letter for a member of the board of directors can lead to the resignation of the member from that particular position, that is the member of the board. But that doesn’t necessarily mean the employee has to officially resign from the company.

A Board of Directors resignation letter is written by a board member who informs the rest of the Board of his intention to resign from the Board of Directors. He could be holding a post or can be just an ordinary Board member. The letter should state his reason for resigning from the Board of Directors. This letter should be written well in advance in accordance to the company’s policies so that they can look into the matter or find a replacement for the member in time.

RE: Resigning from Board of Directors

Herewith is my letter of resignation from the Board of Directors of Paramount Corporation. My resignation will take effect on February 1, 2017.

After being on the Board of Directors for five years, I feel that it is time for me to vacate my place to allow young blood to fill my seat. This is for the further growth of the company, as I am nearing retirement age in a couple of years. New ideas can be presented to the Board for the betterment of the Company as the organization moves into a new era of business. I believe it is important to make way for others who have the potential to contribute their perspectives that will lead to the eventual growth of the company vis-a-vis the younger generations. I would be more than happy to help in the lookout for new members.

I wish to thank the Chairman of the Board and all Board Members for their support and input to me during my tenure on the Board.

I shall pass on my portfolio to my successor if one is found before my last day on the Board; otherwise, I shall pass my portfolio to the Board Secretary.

However, if a suitable replacement isn’t found in time, I will be more than happy to extend my tenure with the board. I promise to complete my pending projects and responsibilities before my tenure ends.
